Acquiring an operating presence in Southeast Asia.
At a glance
The situation
GDA held coverage in interactive media and gaming through its founded ventures, but had no operating presence in Southeast Asia — one of the fastest-growing markets in the sector and a region where origination depends on being physically present.
The mandate
Acquire an operating business rather than open a representative office. The objective was a team with existing relationships and live deal flow, integrated into the platform from day one, not a nameplate that would take three years to matter.
What was built
GDA acquired Omni3 and established a Singapore presence, appointing its founder Nicholas Seah — previously of Temasek and Blockchain Founders Fund — as regional gaming lead. The team was integrated into the firm’s interactive media practice, giving GDA origination capability in Southeast Asian gaming and a base for the wider Asia Pacific market.
