What is watch-to-earn?

The answer

Watch-to-earn is rewarded attention: verified viewing time earning rewards, converting the audience from the product of streaming economics into a paid participant. The model's viability turns entirely on two design choices — whether viewing is genuinely verified, and whether the reward is denominated in something with a floor.

Streaming's economics have always monetized the audience for someone else — advertising sold on their attention, subscriptions priced on their habit. Watch-to-earn routes a share of that value back, and its institutional test is fraud-resistance: attention is the most easily simulated commodity on the internet, so verification infrastructure, not content, is where these platforms win or fail.

The asset-denominated version is operated in the firm's ecosystem as Watch-For-Gold — viewing settling to a gold-denominated ledger shared with every other participation verb — which addresses the second failure mode: a reward worth watching for has to still be worth something next quarter.
